Smart Rest Days

Life changes. The plan keeps its sequence.

When a client misses a workout, CoachOS does not silently skip the session or rebuild their weekly routine. The workout days stay fixed and the session content moves to the next available training day.

The simple version

Dates stay put. Sessions move forward.

Smart Rest Days protect the order of the programme. The next session is based on completed workouts, so a skipped workout does not advance the sequence.

What the system protects

The routine stays familiar. The programme stays honest.

A client who trains on Monday, Wednesday and Friday can keep that rhythm. CoachOS changes which session appears on those days, not the days themselves.

Stays fixed

Workout days

The weekly training rhythm remains Monday, Wednesday and Friday in this example.

Push remains the next session until it is completed, then Pull and Legs continue in order.

The reason

The client can log why the workout was missed and add a note for the coach.

Work ran lateNote shared with coach

How the logic works

Completion advances the programme. A skip does not.

The core rule is deliberately clear. CoachOS counts completed sessions to find what comes next. A logged skip marks the workout as missed but keeps that session at the front of the queue.

02Push is missedCompleted count: still 0

Automation with context

The system handles the sequence. The coach handles the person.

CoachOS can mark a session as rescheduled, carry the programme forward and calculate extension time where needed. The coach still sees the missed-workout context and decides whether the wider plan should change.

Three situations, three clear boundaries

Automatic rule. Review suggestion. Coach decision.

CoachOS labels each kind of response so a schedule calculation cannot be mistaken for advice, and a draft suggestion cannot be mistaken for a coach-approved plan.

01

Deterministic scheduling

A planned session is missed

Client context
The client marks Monday’s Push session as missed and shares “Work ran late.”
CoachOS response
Smart Rest Days keeps Monday, Wednesday and Friday fixed, then places Push on Wednesday and Pull on Friday.
Coach control
The coach sees the reason, the rescheduled state and the resulting programme timing.

Applied by scheduling rule

02

Review suggestion

Shared context needs a human read

Client context
The client shares a check-in note and optional Apple Health context with their coach.
CoachOS response
CoachOS can prepare “Move Lower Body B to Saturday” as a review suggestion. It remains not applied.
Coach control
The coach checks the wider plan, speaks to the client if needed and decides whether anything should change.

Not applied · coach review required

03

Coach decision

The programme needs a deliberate edit

Client context
The client’s note and recent training history stay available beside the plan.
CoachOS response
CoachOS preserves the current schedule while the review is open; a suggestion is never the same as a saved change.
Coach control
The coach keeps the current load, edits the programme or changes the schedule, then owns the saved decision.

Why this matters

Missing Monday should not quietly delete Monday’s work.

Fixed calendar plans can jump to the next label and leave a gap in the training sequence. Smart Rest Days keep the client’s routine stable while preserving the order chosen by the coach.

No silent jump to the next muscle group No need to rebuild the weekly training days Clear rescheduled state for client and coach

Questions, answered

Smart Rest Days questions

What are Smart Rest Days?

Smart Rest Days are CoachOS scheduling logic for missed workouts. Workout days remain fixed, while the session sequence moves forward so a skipped session becomes the next workout.

Do Smart Rest Days move the client’s workout days?

No. If the plan uses Monday, Wednesday and Friday, those days stay fixed. The session content assigned to the next workout day changes.

What happens to the workout after the missed session?

It follows in sequence after the missed session is completed. A skipped workout does not advance the programme index, so the plan does not silently jump past that session.

Can the programme end date change?

CoachOS can calculate a programme extension when missed sessions need more scheduled workout days to complete. The original and adjusted timing remain available to the scheduling system.

Can the client explain why they missed a workout?

Yes. Clients can log a missed workout with a reason and optional note, giving the coach context for the next conversation.

Does Smart Rest Days replace the coach?

No. The scheduling logic preserves the session sequence. The coach still decides whether the programme, training load or wider plan needs a human adjustment.

Make the plan more resilient

Coach the reality, not an imaginary perfect week.

Smart Rest Days keep the programme sequence intact while clients keep the training rhythm that fits their life.
